Animal biotechnology


The main applications of biotechnology to livestock breeding and husbandry are diagnostics the production of transgenic animals, animal nutrition and animal health.
Diagnostic and analytical approaches are used during animal breeding, in order to identify phenotypological, physiological or biochemical traits which could be used as targets for breeding programmes.
These analytical methods can also be used for proving the origin and parenthood of animals. Compared to traditional methods analytics and diagnostics based on biotechnology are more efficient, rely on smaller samples and provide faster results.

Livestock are important in supporting the livelihoods of livestock keepers, consumers, trades and labourers throughout the world. Diseases affecting livestock can have a significant impact on animal productivity and production, on trade in live animal productivity and production, on trade in live animals, meat ant other animal products, on human health (diseases transmissible from animal to humans), and, consequently, on the overall process of economic development

Production Animal biotechnology

Animal Production has played an important role in all areas of animal production including production systems, nutrition, meat science, animal welfare, wool science, animal breeding and genetics.

Animal production research covers: genetics and breeding of farm animals, feed science and nutrition of farm animals, reproduction biotechnology, immuno- and cytogenetics, technology, ecology and economics of animal production, quality of animal raw materials and products.

Therefore, there are evaluated more characteristics (like fertility, pregnancy rate, frequency of difficult parturition) in every breed.
